In the process to ABD there are 3 big hurdles: comprehensive exams and the dissertation proposal. In our department we break up written comps into 2 steps (field statements) and our oral comps are the defense of our dissertation proposal.
I am proud to report (although belatedly) that I have cleared the first hurdle by passing my first written doctoral exam! I got the good news before Christmas. I spent most of winter break basking in the glow of my productivity and accomplishment.
But those days are over! It is back to the grind... I'm working on my second field statement and the dissertation proposal. The goal is ABD by August.
